Project -- Overcoming Cognitive Depletion

Dr. Nathan Hodas, Ph.D. is a Senior Research Scientist in the Data Science and Analytics group at PNNL. He joined the Laboratory in May 2014. His research includes behavioral modeling, social media analytics, machine learning, and physical modeling. He has significant experience connecting complex and messy real-world data with analytical models of physical, biological, and human systems.

Before arriving at PNNL, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the Information Sciences Institute at University of Southern California. Nathan studied information propagation on social networks, developing human response dynamics to predict behavior online and completed the Santa Fe Institute’s Complex Systems Summer School in 2009.

Nathan was awarded his Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech in 2011. His graduate work at Caltech involved studying nonlinear dynamics of nano-scale systems, conducting nonlinear optical biological experiments, developing advanced theories of nanoscale protein dynamics, and modeling surface chemical reactions.  He graduated with a B.A. in Physics from Williams College in 2004. Nathan is a recipient of the American Physical Society’s Apker Award. He is also been awarded a Caltech Institutional Fellowship, NSF-GRF Honorable Mention, and Hertz Fellowship Semifinalist. He is a member of the American Physical Society, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, and IEEE.
